Empowerment through performance
In October, Papworth Trust were awarded a grant for almost £20,000 to create a music group aimed at combating isolation for disabled people living in the Ipswich area.
BAND-IT is a new creative project focusing on wellbeing. The intention is to form a music band in Ipswich to develop skills in music production, live and recorded performance, gig promotion and marketing.
BAND-IT is open to Ipswich residents from all backgrounds aged 19 to 35 years, who are in receipt of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) who feel isolated from the community and experience mental health challenges.
BAND-IT is allocated time and space for personal and social reflection, personal development and growth alongside the opportunity to develop practical creative skills. This is for people who feel they would benefit and their confidence and self-esteem would improve through creativity and music.
BAND-IT is delivered by accomplished musicians, skilled in music production, stage craft and event management, who hold experience and knowledge in care and support.
BAND-IT has been made possible by an award from Postcode Community Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of the People's Postcode Lottery.
