About the Project

OWL Bikes is a Papworth Trust social enterprise based at the Cambridge Opportunities Without Limits day service. OWL Bikes provides a variety of services from bike maintenance, repairs and sales to supporting adults to become employment ready.

The OWL Bikes Employment Project will empower 20 adults with learning disabilities each year.  The project will provide the practical knowledge and skills to prepare individuals on their employment journey.   helping them to a more financially sustainable future.

A Senior Service Manager and Support Assistant will work alongside individuals for a 3-month period.  This time will be spent working through a specially designed training course.  The course will support individuals to learn a variety of employment skills from customer service and retail skills to bike maintenance and repairs.   These skills and the practical training opportunity put the adults with a learning disability who come to OWL Bikes with the real opportunity to gain employment and independence in the future.

The Difference

The OWL Bike Employment Project will see employment becoming a very real option for the individuals who take part.  We will see individuals:
  • Increasing their employment ready skills
  • With greater employment opportunities
  • Increased independence
  • Reduced feelings of loneliness and isolation
  • Improved health and wellbeing

The Cost

The OWL Bikes Employment Project costs a total of £29,553.  This is to support 20 individuals through the training course.
One bursary place would cost £1,477.
