Papworth Trust celebrates UK Employability Day 2024
On Friday 13 September, Papworth Trust is celebrating UK Employability Day with two open days at our
Cambridge and Peterborough offices.
Employability Day is the UK’s largest celebration for organisations supporting local people to gain, sustain and progress in work. Coordinated by the Employment Related Services Association (ERSA), hundreds of businesses, charities and other bodies will throw open their doors to raise awareness about how they support local people.
Our open days take place from 10am – 2pm and there is no need to book. Employment Advisers will be on hand to discuss the Work and Health Programme and Pioneer. We’ll be able to show you the types of support on offer and facilitate on the day referrals.
Here is John’s story
John has an architectural background. Due to some health issues, he stopped doing this. He was referred by the Jobcentre Plus for support with his mental health and confidence. He had a very comprehensive CV for architecture, but not for any other industry.
Papworth Trust’s Support Manager worked with him to create a generic CV that could be used for other applications. John was not sure about going back into architecture. With the support and encouragement from his Support Manager, he started to look around for jobs he felt he could do. which would not be too stressful.
He began applying for a number of jobs within the industry using Indeed, but wasn’t getting any responses. His Support Manager suggested that he saw job vacancies of interest, he apply directly to the company to see if that would make any difference. When he started to do this, he was invited to 2 interviews in the same month.
When John had a call inviting him for an interview, he called his Support Manager for advice and was worried about going due to nerves. They had a discussion together, shared interview tips and ran through some question scenarios.
John got the job and is enjoying it so far. He says he feels happy to be financially contributing within his household again.
