A generous legacy has paved the way for a massive refurbishment programme to Papworth Trust’s much-loved Waveney Centre.
The centre, in Lowestoft’s London Road South, runs a number of support services for disabled people, a care hub for carers and a work programme to support the long-term unemployed return to work.
Now the services and facilities offered have received a big boost after a donation of £28,000 was left to the centre in the will of Frederick Dawson.
The refurbishment work was marked in a special celebration attended by members of Mr Dawson’s family and Paralympic gold medallist swimmer Jessica-Jane Applegate MBE who unveiled the new Dawson Room.
Mr Dawson’s niece, Linda Pepper, said: “My uncle used to visit the centre and so he chose to support it through his will.
“The family think it is absolutely brilliant that his money has been spent so wisely to help so many people. It is great to be able to see with our own eyes what a difference it has made.”
Jessica-Jane, who is currently training for the Rio Paralympics in September, added: “It is always nice to give something back to the community and I am delighted to have been able to offer my support to Papworth Trust.”
The building has now been redecorated, with new floors installed and the kitchen space refurbished – with the work completed by PJ Spillings LTD.
