Papworth Trust has been awarded funds to help renovate a communal kitchen to support its efforts.

The charity applied to Persimmon Homes East Midlands for support and were awarded £1,000 towards the renovation project at the Cambridge Centre in Hawthorn Way.

Persimmon Homes’ national match-funding programme, Community Champions, seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life for local people.

Jo Revitt, corporate partnership executive at the charity, said: “Today we help nearly 5,000 people in Cambridgeshire and the East of England and Papworth Trust’s aim is for disabled people to have equality, choice and independence in their lives. We work towards achieving this by involving our service users in the development and delivery of a range of services.

“We are currently seeking to refurbish a fully accessible and functioning kitchen at our Cambridge Centre which would enhance the independent living skills programme currently delivered by linking together a number of different activities which support our customer’s independence and well-being.

“This donation from Persimmon Homes has boosted our fundraising effort and we are very grateful for the support shown.”

Nova Eames, head of sales at Persimmon Homes East Midlands, said: “We’re pleased to be able to back such a worthy cause.

“After reading the application for funding, we were impressed by the support being offered by the Papworth Trust. It’s great to be able to assist with this donation and support its work.

“We would love to hear from more clubs, groups and good causes as we look to allocate more funding over the coming months.

“All we ask is that the group or charity has already worked hard to raise money themselves, and we will then match this effort with funding of up to £1,000.”
