How we helped Mark after a bike accident

Mark had a bike accident a couple of years ago and is now paralysed on his left side. He was previously a Welder/Fabricator and as a result of his injuries had to look at a new career path. Whilst he was out of work he retrained and qualified as a CGI illustrator and found opportunities very limited in this line of work.

Mark joined the Work and Health programme and we supported him to look at widening his job goals and arranged a work placement at a local hospital doing administration roles within various departments such as medical records and bookings.
Mark settled well into the team and enjoyed the variety of work he was doing. We met with his employer to discuss adjustments in the work place and an occupation health assessment was carried out and adjustments were made to his desk space.

This has been a great success and showed him he can use his skills in other areas. A role came up within the clinical audit team and he was successful in gaining a full-time permanent role.
Small adjustments made by the employer made all the difference
