We have recently heard about our Opportunities Without Limits customer Sharon, who attends our Basildon service.  Sharon has anxieties and feel uncomfortable wearing a face mask, as per government guidance to combat COVID-19. Regardless, Sharon is not medically exempt from wearing one on medical grounds.

Our Business Manager, Maggie, has worked closely with Sharon on overcoming the barriers she faces with wearing a mask, demonstrating how it would look, taking her along the routes of where she would need one to demonstrate how long she would need to wear a mask for.  Maggie explained that she wouldn’t need to wear it all day, just when she is moving in and around the centre.

Since then, Sharon has tried different masks on.  She found the blue disposable masks uncomfortable to wear, but has since found different types that she does find comfortable, including cottons ones that have a thin foam covering, and finds these suit her best.

Now Sharon is happy to wear a mask and doesn’t even need prompting to wear one.  She already has it on when she comes to have her temperature check taken when she arrives at the centre.

We are delighted at the excellent progress Sharon has made – well done to her and the Opportunities Without Limits team in Basildon.
