Beth joined Papworth Trust in 2024, feeling anxious and worried about her surroundings and the people around her, which often led to upset and triggered her anxiety, affecting her breathing and behaviours. Her love for dance and music was encouraged, as these served as therapeutic outlets she enjoyed at home with her family when she felt stressed.

It quickly became apparent that Beth struggled with confidence in new situations, but staff made a point to encourage and praise her for her achievements and progress. Over time, Beth became involved in volunteering at the Human Kind Café. At Day Opportunities she also completed a four-week gardening course, participated in cooking sessions, engaged in arts and crafts, and welcomed new customers to the centre with kindness.

As she grew more comfortable, Beth took on additional responsibilities at the centre, earning her the title of an official ‘Papworth Helper’. This role has brought her immense pride and expresses how important it is for her to help staff and others.

Maggie, Service Manager at Day Opportunities Basildon, said "So proud to see how far Beth has come since she joined Papworth Trust. The support that staff provide, continues to be really beneficial in Beth’s personal growth and we are so pleased to be part of her achievements. Beth is a joy to have here."
