‘Papworth's Pride’ rose forms an integral part of the anniversary plans organised by a specially-formed Centenary Circle of friends and supporters of the charity.

In conjunction with Peter Beales Roses, based in Attleborough in Norfolk, the Papworth Pride was launched at this year's Chelsea Flower Show and is now available for sale at Scotsdales Garden Centre.

Elspeth Thomas, who is chairing the circle, said: “We are delighted to have teamed up with Peter Beales Roses to continue Papworth Trust’s fine floral traditions.

“This is a very important anniversary for the charity and having a rose bearing our name is a wonderful and unique way to commemorate our 100 years of supporting disabled people.

“We would like to thank Susan and Graham Tobbell who have generously sponsored the rose.

“We hope it will be enjoyed by garden lovers and charity supporters alike with money raised from this special partnership helping our work with disabled people and their families across the East of England.”

Ian Limmer, nursery manager at Peter Beales Roses, said: “Papworth’s Pride is an exquisite addition to our Modern Classic collection, bearing clusters of large raspberry red, peony style flowers that unfold to reveal bright yellow anthers that are an absolute magnet to insects.

“Intensely perfumed with bright glossy mid green foliage, this medium sized shrub looks magnificent planted en-masse, in the middle of a herbaceous border or grown simply in a tub as a specimen plant to enhance a patio or paved area.”

The rose is priced at £17.45 each with all proceeds going to support Papworth Trust’s work with disabled people and their families across Cambridgeshire.
