Habinteg Housing Association successfully gained their Disability Confident Leadership status in September 2023.

Disability Confident is a Government initiative designed to encourage employers to recruit and retain disabled people and those with health conditions.

As part of Papworth Trust’s Disability Confident strategy for this year, it embarked on the journey of becoming a validator – this means the Trust can validate other organisations’ applications to become a Disability Confident Leader.

It supports their mission to promote Disability Confident and increase the number of Disability Confident Leaders across the country. The Trust supported Habinteg in becoming a Disability Confident Leader as part of their first validation.

Una Davis, Deputy Director of Operations at Papworth Trust, said:

“Congratulations to Habinteg on becoming a Disability Confident Leader, it is the result of a lot of hard work and a demonstration of their commitment to provide an inclusive environment for disabled people in their workplace.

“The Trust is passionate about supporting disabled to find and keep a job. We find the Disability Confident scheme brings a platform to talk to employers about the commercial and social benefit of recruiting more disabled people. We strive for a world where disabled people are seen for who they are.”

Nick Apetroaie, Habinteg’s Chief Executive, said:

“We are very proud to be recognised as a Disability Confident Leader. Inclusivity is at the heart of what we do so achieving this standard is very important to us.

“Disability Confident Leader status demonstrates that we are committed and driven to recruit and retain disabled people within our teams. We value the skills that disabled people bring to our organisation; how their experiences can have a positive impact on our tenants and make Habinteg a better  organisation to work for.”
