Chris, 41, from Arbury, Cambridge said he always assumed he’d never do a marathon but after starting running two years ago he found out he liked it.
“From that point I just slowly ran more and more," he explained.
“After doing the Cambridge half marathon I was in awe that anyone could do a marathon race, but then the dust settled and I figured why not?”
Chris said Papworth Trust is affiliated with the Corporate Social Responsibility policies at Qualcomm Technologies International where he works.
He said: “We got an email at work saying they needed runners for the marathon and I thought this was a perfect chance for me to do the marathon and help a local cause at the same time.”
Chris is hoping to complete the course in the capital, hopefully in under four hours and his half marathon personal best time is 1hour 45mins.
His training is in full swing and he is working up to 43 miles per week peak mileage, running seven days a week.
“I got injured at the end of November and couldn’t run for five weeks, so that was quite a setback. I am OK now and touch wood I will be OK to get to the start line.”
Wife Fran and sons, Euan and Thomas, will be cheering him on in April.
