How our Skills for Effective Job Searching programme is helping Adam:

Adam has been on the Community Connections Essex project since December and has autism.

He has never been in paid work however he has volunteered at HARP, Shoe Zone and the Co-Op.

Having autism has made it difficult for Adam to find a job, as he was unaware of how to do this. He can get stressed and overwhelmed easily - so would need the right job for him.

Adam has been on our 8-week job searching programme and we have weekly 1-2-1 meetings. We have created him a new CV, discussed the importance of cover letters when applying for jobs and created a basic template to help assist him when he job searches independently.

We have gone through lots of our note packs, including: social media, job sites, how to apply for jobs and digital interviews. We have also had a practise interview which Adam answered really well and went over feedback together.

Adam really enjoys the programme and wants to work in retail, as he feels this will not overwhelm him. He has the skills to fit this role and Adam now believes in himself and that he is capable of doing this.

In our last 2 appointments Adam has been job searching on his own tablet and has also applied for a job himself, which is incredible progress. Adam now feels confident in job searching and knows which direction he wants to go in.
