How Community Connections South supported Alex into a work placement:

What made the participant join the project?

Alex was struggling a lot as a result of Covid-19 due to his autism. He had completed a traineeship with Ixion but struggled talking to new people and lacked confidence.

Alex admits that there were times that he felt like he didn’t have to work and lacked the drive to achieve any work goals.

How has the project helped them?

Alex feels more confident and motivated, and he feels that is what he lacked initially.

At points the project advisors have just been a sounding board for him to air his concerns but admits that he has learnt some things from them in terms of job searching and interview skills.

Where is the participant now?

Alex is now in a Kickstart placement with a digital print company as an admin assistant and has even been working on their upcoming new website.

Alex feels much more confident now he is employed and is going to make the most out of the experience and gain new skills which can be utilised in other roles in his future. Alex feels much happier with his new situation.
